Most popular car colours and how they impact your insurance rate.

Most people may not know it, but the insurance industry is colour-blind. It doesn't matter if your car is a blue, red, green, silver, white, or black, your insurance rate for that make and model of car will be the same.
Even though car colour doesn't matter, a recent car colour popularity survey (released by PPG Industries the world's leading manufacturer of transportation coatings) shows that, yet again, silver is the most popular car colour out on the road.
For the 2007 model year in North America, vehicles produced were:
- 22 per cent silver
- 16 per cent white
- 15 per cent black
- 13 per cent red
- 12 per cent blue
- 10 per cent were "naturals" like gold, orange or brown tones
- 6 per cent were either niche or specialty colours
- 5 per cent green
That's more than 1 in 5 cars in the parking lot that are silver. No wonder finding your car can be tricky at times.
So what can you expect to see in coming model years?
Colour trends, according to PPG forecasters, suggest that in the coming years you'll see colours called:
- Cold Stare, a tinted silver with steel blue highlights
- Double Vision, a green with a red hue-shifting highlight
- Out of Sight, a brown with blue hue-shifting highlight
- Quest, a yellow metallic
- Gleam, another green only this time with flash of gold
With all the hue-shifting trends, it kind of sounds like a recent CSI: Miami show, doesn't it?
Don't believe that car colour doesn't matter?
