The most extreme road car?
- Mark NicholThe Caparo T1 was already a quite, ahem, brisk machine - but now it's gone completely bonkers, as the British maker unveils this: the T1 Race Extreme. It gets the same V8 engine as the 'standard' T1 - if you can use that word to describe the T1 - but it's tinkered with to produce 620bhp at an astonishing 10,500rpm. That's a 45bhp improvement.

It means that, if your stomach can cope, 0-62mph arrives in 2.8 seconds and, astonishingly, 100mph is reached in just 5.8 seconds before the car quickly maxes out at 208mph. But as incredible as those stats are, even more so are the g forces you'll experience from the cockpit: 4g around corners - the same as an F1 driver feels. Best get fit if you're thinking about buying one, then.
But if you are, there's a chance you can afford a personal trainer too, because Caparo will charge $450,000 for one of these. The order book is open now with a delivery time of 6-8 weeks.

It's built, according to Caparo, with the 'high end of the track day market' in mind. However, Yahoo! Cars spoke to Stuart Scarbrough, Sales and Marketing Director for Caparo's Vehicle Products Division, who told us that the T1 Race extreme could easily be made road legal. He said: 'technically it could be done, but we wouldn't encourage it.'
But if any Race Extreme customer was brave enough to use theirs on the road, they might also want to consider adding Caparo's just-announced 'climate option', which for around $40k adds a plexiglass canopy with air conditioning - it'll get very hot in there!
