Lotus reveals new Evora
- Kyle Fortune
Crowd pleaser or motoring teaser?
Lotus is perhaps the only manufacturer to have a genuine reveal at ExCeL, Vauxhall unable to contain its excitement over the Insignia and showing it yesterday. And the waiting is finally now over regarding the name for Lotus's new car, the 2+2 mid-engined coupé following the company tradition with its E-prefixed names and calling it Evora.
Stand out features?
Lotus describes its new Evora as a "true character in a faceless world" it demonstrating this rather weirdly with faceless masked models on stage prior to the car's unveil. Oddball PR stunts aside Lotus revealed that its first all-new car in thirteen years is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 with 280bhp. Mike Kimberly, when unveiling the Evora, wouldn't mention the performance figures though, claiming there to be too many police around, but the new car should manage a 0-100 km/h time of around five seconds.
Showroom soon or never to be seen?
The Evora will be in the showrooms next year, Lotus seeing its new 2+2 model as a natural step up the range for loyal customers. A good-looking mid-engined Lotus is always something we're going to get excited about here, and Lotus is promising more. The Hethel firm suggests that over the next five years it will be busy launching additional models to its range, giving its customers even more choice.
